Accessibility Guide

Here at The Ell we wish to make everyone's stay as enjoyable as possible and have provided suitable access for our guests. We aim to accurately describe our facilities to give you the confidence to book with us.

External

Main Entrance

• To reach the main entrance there is a ramp, which is permanent, although there is a short distance over gravel to access it.
• The main entrance has level access.
• The main door is 850mm wide.
• The main door is side hung and manual.
• When you arrive, we can help carry your luggage.

Access with Steps

• There are steps from the kitchen door to the rear garden with a handrail.
• The door is 760mm wide.
• We have ramps available in case of emergency.

Getting Around Inside

Level Access

• Within the property all rooms are on ground level.
• There is unobstructed floor space of 2000mm by 2500mm, or more.
• The door frames are at least 770mm wide.
• Light switches are 1150mm from the floor.
• Plug sockets are 460mm from the floor.

Visual

• The walls and the doors have a colour contrast.
• Information is available in large print.

Hearing

• The TVs have subtitles.

Lounge / Dining Room

• There is one sofa, seat 450mm from floor, one wing chair, seat 465mm from the floor, and one bucket shaped armchair, seat 420mm from floor.
• Dining chairs have a seat 450mm from the floor.
• The height of the dining table is 770/750mm from the floor with clear underneath space of 730mm from the floor.

Bedrooms

• The route to the bedrooms is 780mm wide, or more.
• We have non-allergic bedding.
• Double room
  • There is 500mm at the one side of the bed and 1300mm at the other.
  • The bed is 510mm high from the floor.
  • There is no space under the bed.
  • There are two seats each 465mm from the floor.
  • The shower room can be accessed from the bedroom.
• Single/Twin room
  • There is 1160mm at the side of the bed.
  • There is 610mm between the beds when the trundle bed is made up.
  • The bed is 630mm high from the floor.
  • There is 55mm under the bed.
  • The shower room is separate from the bedroom.
  • The chair seat is 480mm from the floor.

Shower Room

• The shower room has a low-level access shower.
• The shower head can be lowered to 1300mm from the floor.
• The stool in the bathroom can be used as a shower chair.
• The shower room has a comfort level toilet (toilet seat 500mm from the floor) with grab handle.
• There is 550mm in front of the toilet.
• The basin is 840mm high from the floor.
• The taps are lever operated.
• There is no open space under the basin.
• The shower room floor is tiled with anti-slip tiles.

Kitchen

• The kitchen has a low-level work surface, 760mm from the floor, with a height of 725mm clear space underneath.
• A two-ring induction hob is available for use on the above work surface.
• The kitchen has a lower level (835mm from the floor) built in oven with slide and hide door for easier access.
• The crockery is kept in eye level kitchen units but can be moved to base units on request.
• The table and plates have high colour contrast.

Getting around Outside

Garden

• The rear garden table is 710mm high with clear underneath space of 675mm from floor to table edge. The seats are 445mm high.
• There are steps up to the decking area.
• The arbour seat is 520mm from the floor.
• The front decking is reached from the entrance ramp and over a short distance of gravel.

Service Animals

A dog or miniature horse that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.

• Guests are allowed to be accompanied by service animals during a stay. We may ask:
  • Whether the guest requires their service animal because of a disability
  • What work or task the service animal has been trained to perform
• We ask that a guest’s service animal is:
  • Kept under control
  • House-trained
  • Not left alone without prior approval
• There is no charge for service animals.

Customer care support

Accessibility Equipment

• A small adult wheelchair is available on request.
• Other wheelchairs can be hired from WMS Services by calling 02891452339.
• We can provide a Celebrity rise and tilt armchair on request.
• The toilet area for assistance dogs is located in the garden to the side of The Ell.

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

• Our smoke detectors have both sound and visual signals.
